Sheltie Undercoat Strip
Meet Abbie, an 8 year old Sheltie. Also known as a Shetland Sheepdog.
Abbies owner gets her an undercoat strip regularly so she can keep this luxurious long coat. She was combed through first then I used an undercoat rake to remove the dead hair and skin cells. This also helps the stimulation of natural oils in the skin and new healthy hair growth. As with all grooms, mini or full, she had her delicate/sanitary areas clipped. This included a clipped strip up the belly so she can splay herself out on the floor to cool down. Her nails were trimmed and her ears cleaned. She was then shampooed and conditioner applied. When Abbie was dry I brushed her again, being careful not to aggravate her skin too much. Finally, she was given a trim and tidy up with scissors.
With all long coated dogs they must be brushed and combed regularly, paying special attention to high friction areas such as behind ears, legs, feet and tails. This is a great way to bond with your “fur kid” and keep a check on them.
She is a beautiful girl.
