Learn How To Groom Dogs Safely
This is an entry-level grooming course designed for beginners.
Whether you want to learn how to groom dogs for a hobby, or to become a professional groomer, this course is for you.
You will gain skills in brushing, washing, blow-drying, clipping, scissoring and dog safety and handling
This course teaches you the fundamentals of pet dog grooming and does not include any complex styling techniques
The 4-day course is held in Cairns and in Brisbane (Shailer Park)
What You Will Learn
You will learn all the essential skills necessary to groom dogs safely and correctly.
It’s a hands-on course and you will get to do 4 full grooms during the 4 days.
After only 4 days training with Jill, you will learn all the skills needed to be able to launch a business from home, get a job in a salon or start your own mobile grooming business.
This course is not government accredited (as Dog Grooming is an unregulated industry)
but you will receive a Certificate when you complete the course.
Safe handling of the dogs
Ear and eye care
Bathing and blow-drying to a professional standard
How to clip the hair to different lengths using blades and attachments
How to shape the face, ears, paws and tail to make them look really cute
De-shedding, undercoat stripping and hand stripping demonstrations
How to market your new skills and get your first clients
Nail trimming, including black nails
Clipping the hygiene areas of the dog safely
Brushing and combing methods and choice of tools for different coat types
Scissoring techniques using 5 different scissor types
Recognising various types of hair and breeds of dog
Selecting and purchasing the correct grooming equipment

Cairns 4 Day Course
The course is held at the Smooch a Pooch salon in Cairns
The days start at 8.30 am and finish at 4 pm.
Class Size: 2 Students
You will leave the course after only 4 days filled with the excitement of knowing that you have sufficient skills to launch your new dog grooming career or business.
Brisbane 4 Day Course
The 4-Day Grooming Course for Beginners, is held at DGS Imports in Shailer Park, Brisbane.
Jill runs the course once every 2 months. It is designed for beginners and you will learn all the fundamental skills necessary to groom a pet dog safely and correctly.
It’s a fully hands-on course for up to 7 students. You will spend the whole 4 days grooming.
All grooming equipment, tools and the dogs are provided for the course, so you will get to try various tools before you decide what to purchase for your new business.
DGS Imports have a shop next door to the Training Room, so you will be able to purchase your grooming tools and products during the course. They offer trade prices to Smooch a Pooch students.
Generally the course run Monday to Thursday from 8.15am to 4pm.
Who This Course Is For
The 4-day hands-on workshop is $2,670 and is a very small investment for anyone wishing to enter the pet industry and become a professional groomer. You can start earning this back within a week of completing the course with Jill.
